We specialise in the reuse and repair of historic buildings and developments in historic settings. Our growing expertise in and commitment to the design of environmentally responsive buildings is complemented by the attention to detail that a background in historic building work provides.

The practice team handles projects across the design and size spectrum; each treated with the same degree of care, attention to detail and enthusiasm.

Past and current clients include: private individuals, businesses and local councils, preservation, museum and other charitable trusts. MSA has a growing portfolio of community based projects and schemes relating to sustainable development.

The practice was founded in 1972 by John Severn. Mark Stewart joined in 1983, becoming an equal partner in 1990, when the practice was renamed Severn Stewart.

John Severn began to retire from the practice in 1995, when Mark Stewart became sole principal, and the Company was renamed Mark Stewart Architects (MSA).

The practice is RIBA registered, and is a member of the Association for Envionmentally Concious Building (AECB).

We have developed our IT and CAD systems (ArchiCAD) in line with the expansion of these technologies. The professional team undertake programmes of continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain and develop their skills and professional competence.
